Wentworth Miller is done playing straight characters

Wentworth Miller has revealed why he won't be joining any future 'Prison Break' storylines.

Fifteen years after 'Prison Break' burst onto our TV screens, there is talk that the award-winning series could be returning for another season - or at least fans hope so! 

But don't expect actor Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) to make an appearance. 

The 48-year-old, who came out as gay in 2013, told his Instagram followers that he is "officially" out of 'Prison Break'. 

"I just don't want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons... I understand this is disappointing. I'm sorry," he wrote.

'Prison Break' debuted in 2005 and continued airing until 2009. It made a return in 2017 for a fifth season, and fans are hoping there will be a sixth. 

While some questioned Wentworth's decision to no longer play straight characters, many applauded him for living his truth. 

"I think you made the right decision. Straight characters have a narrated story. I can understand your decision that you don't want to do this anymore and I will always love and support you no matter what happens," one Instagram user commented.

Another added: "You deserve all the love in the world! Thank you for your constant realness. Sad to hear about no more PB but happy to hear that you are making a decision you are proud of! We fully support and love you!"

Wentworth's former colleagues also showed him some love.

"It was fun mate. What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for you health and your truth. Keep the posts coming. …. love ya brother," Dominic Purcell, who plays Lincoln Burrows, said.

Sarah Wayne Callies, aka Dr. Sara Tancredi, wrote: "With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, I’m voicing my support for that choice."

She added that "the cast of 'Prison Break' is a queer-friendly space".

"We stand with – and among – our friends & family in the LGBTQ+ community with full-throated support for their rights and artistic work. all the time. always.”
