Kenny Kunene is lucky to be alive after a shooting incident in Johannesburg, but some people don't buy his account of the incident.

The 'Sushi King' detailed how the car he was driving was riddled with bullets in what he believes was a hit.

He told TshisaLIVE that the suspects fired "five rows of bullets" while he was driving a BMW 125i in Waverely at around 8pm on Tuesday.

Some media reports suggested 21 shots were fired at the businessman.

When news first broke of the shooting, many thought it was an attempted hijacking, but Kenny is convinced it was a hit.

He claims that before the shooting occurred he was with his friend, Sunday Independent editor Steve Motale - who had sent Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa questions about his alleged affairs recently.

Kunene's website, Weekly Xposé, also covered the story, and reportedly posted a porn video of one of the accused women. The deputy president was not in the video.

Ramaphosa denied the accusations, and many believed the reports were a smear campaign in the run- up to the ANC's 54th national congress.

"This latest episode extends far beyond an attempt at political smear. It represents an escalation of a dirty war against those who are working to restore the values, principles and integrity of the African National Congress and society," the deputy president said in response to the reports.

Kunene told the media it was clear the shooters were "baying for our blood".

He claims Motale was supposed to be in the car with him, but his bodyguard advised that they do not travel together.

Twitter users are convinced Kunene staged the entire thing - a claim he denies.
