"I think I’ll need to take a nap for 3-5 business days to fully wrap my head around today," says Thuso Mbedu after winning big at the Spirit Awards.
South Africa's golden girl, Thuso Mbedu, has done it again.
The Pietermaritzburg-born star won 'Best Female Performance In A New Scripted Series' at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards in California on Sunday.
Thuso was recognised for her role as Cora in the Amazon Prime series, 'The Underground Railroad'.
"What a day! (I think I’ll need to take a nap for 3-5 business days to fully wrap my head around today). A big thank you to @filmindependent for allowing me to be part of such an important and brilliant group of people. I’m humbled. Thank you for this recognition," the 30-year-old wrote on Instagram.
Thuso was one of several stars who walked the blue carpet at the event. Kristen Stewart, Andrew Garfield, Rosario Dawson, and Regina Hall were also spotted at Sunday's ceremony in Santa Monica.
Thuso, who has been busy shooting scenes for her upcoming movie with Viola Davis - 'The Woman King', was happy to be reunited with her LA-based glam squad.
"Y’all snatched me to the gods and back! I mean lemme tell you something, chile," she wrote.

Other Spirit Award winners include 'Squid Game' star Lee Jung-jae (Best Male Performance In A Scripted Series) and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who won 'Best Director' for 'The Lost Daughter'.
Thuso has won several awards for her critically-acclaimed role in 'The Underground Railroad'. She was recognised at the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards in August last year.
The series also won big at the Golden Globes Awards.
Thuso recently gave her fans a taste of what they can expect when 'The Woman King' is released later this year. The movie tells the story of an all-female military unit from The Kingdom of Dahomey in Africa.
Thuso showed off some of her fighting moves in a video choreographed by fight and stunt performer Johnny Gao.
