Prom night goes horribly wrong for this girl!
Updated | By East Coast Radio
This is one seriously
dangerous example of a prom ritual gone wrong!
The annual prom dance is a big deal for pupils in America. It is the equivalent to South Africa’s matric dance.
But the prom almost turned into a disaster for one Massachusetts teen who was innocently participating in one of the night’s biggest rituals.
One of prom’s long-standing traditions is for the guys to place a corsage on their date’s wrist.
The girls in turn help their partners pin a boutonniere to their shirt.
Kathleen Garvey, however, decided to hold the pin in her mouth while she adjusted the flower on her prom date’s shirt.
"He made some kind of joke, I laughed and it went down my throat and I immediately started coughing. It was a small black pin so we just assumed worst case scenario it went down," she told CBS Boston.
As a precaution, she went to the hospital the next day.
An X-ray revealed that the pin actually went down her trachea and in her bronchial tube - right before one of her lungs.
It took a 45-minute surgery to remove the pin!
Crazy.
