Prince Harry pays tribute to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
It's been one year since Britain's longest-serving monarch died, and her grandson says she is "looking down on us all".
Prince Harry joined scores of people around the world in remembering Queen Elizabeth II on the one-year anniversary of her death.
The monarch passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
During his speech at the WellChild Awards on Thursday - the eve of Queen Elizabeth's death - Prince Harry told the audience that his grandmother was looking down on them all.
"As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year as my grandmother passed away. As you also probably know, she would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with you all instead of going to her," the 38-year-old said.
He added: "That’s precisely why I know exactly one year on that she is looking down on all of us tonight, happy we’re together, continuing to spotlight such an incredible community."
The prince has been a WellChild patron for 15 years. The organisation's awards ceremony "celebrates the inspirational qualities of the UK’s seriously ill children and young people".
