Prince Harry and Meghan's foundation helps raise R224m for charity
The Archewell Foundation has raised millions of dollars since 2020.
Prince Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation has raised $13-million (R224m) for charity. It has also distributed $3-million (R51m) in grants, according to British journalist Omid Scobie.
The foundation released its 2020-22 'Impact Report' at the weekend. "Since its founding in 2020 by Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Archewell Foundation has built a growing body of work rooted in the philosophy of compassion, connection, and care," co-executive directors James Holt and Shauna Nep said in a letter.
The money raised in the past two years has been used to assist various causes, including COVID-19 vaccine equity.
"Our initiatives between 2020-2022 have included investments in: vaccine equity, global relief centers, refugee resettlement, the care of families and communities in need, and the reshaping of our online world with the support of groundbreaking leaders in this space."

Prince Harry and Meghan officially launched the website for the Archewell Foundation in October 2020.
The couple explained how the name of their charity came about.
"Before SussexRoyal came the idea of 'arche' — the Greek word meaning 'source of action. We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon," they said in an April 2020 statement.
Well was chosen for its meaning, "a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep", according to the website.
The Archewell Foundation says it is looking forward to the year ahead.
"We’re excited to embark on the next chapter with a renewed spirit, and an unwavering commitment to key issues which have an overwhelming ripple effect on our collective well-being. Dovetailing off of the impact we’ve made during this start up phase we will continue to build a better world online, work to restore trust in information, and above all, uplift communities online and offline, local and global."

In their third year, Archewell intends to focus on “three main pillars united by a vision of a world where our mental health and well-being is cared for” — building a better online world, restoring trust in information, and uplifting communities.
