Prince Harry and Meghan cut off British tabloids: 'There will be zero engagement'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have accused four major British tabloids of spreading "salacious gossip".
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are tired of being targets of 'distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason' gossip about their lives.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they will no longer be speaking to several British tabloids.
The Daily Mail, which is known for its negative coverage of the royal couple, was one of the major media outlets mentioned in the couple's letter to editors.
The Mail on Sunday, the MailOnline and DailyMail.com are also part of the list.

Other publications in the couple's black book are The Sun, The Mirror and the Daily Express.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have watched people they know - as well as complete strangers - have their lives completely pulled apart for no good reason, other than the fact that salacious gossip boosts advertising revenue," the royals wrote.
Meghan and Harry will not be engaging with the outlets at all.
"There will be no corroboration and zero engagement. This is also a policy being instated for their communications team, in order to protect that team from the side of the industry that readers never see."

They added that the move was not to avoid criticism.
"It's not about shutting down public conversation or censoring accurate reporting. Media have every right to report on The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, good or bad. But it can't be based on a lie. They also want to be very clear: this is not in any way a blanket policy for all media."

A British political commentator called the couple "two narcissistic and shameless pair of attention-seeking wasters" for sending out the letters when the world was fighting the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
But Harry and Meghan's fans noted that many British publications - particularly those mentioned in the list - remained obsessed with the couple.
"They have written ab the virus. Except it was about how Meghan and Harry "abandoned" their family during the virus. How can people not see that it isn't Meghan nor Harry's fault, but the media's for writing articles on them when they aren't even doing anything," one Twitter user wrote.

British tabloids are criminals gangs of bullies. pic.twitter.com/JrooTeX8qC
Many Twitter users applauded the couple for taking a stand against tabloid bullies.
So...key workers are risking their lives...but Meghan and Harry who are out delivering meals and therefore risking their lives are just seeking publicity. Sort it out daily mail...you hate that these two are just doing their best to help, whilst loving one another. #bekind

“What [Meghan and Harry] won’t do is offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion.”

Outstanding. Let’s hope their decision enables a cultural shift away from tabloids creating false controversies to generate revenue. https://t.co/xW9HmE8BeM
Everytime Harry and Meghan fight back against British tabs, I always think of how Diana would be so proud of her son and daughter-in-law. Keep watching over Harry, Meghan and Archie, Diana! They will carry on your legacy. Both are already legends, the other royals could never. pic.twitter.com/TMJ7pnXEyU

It still baffles me to this day how these people covered 0.001% about Andrew & Epstein, then 100% pure garbage about Harry and Meghan. https://t.co/jWyfdYcFmB

Harry and Meghan are taking a stand. It's NOT uncharted territory. It is however NOT a stand many can afford to take, so bravo to H&M and others who can afford and have said NO more pic.twitter.com/tH487WTWb0
