'No evidence' Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were ever married

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are reportedly heading for a divorce, but according to TMZ, there is "no evidence" to suggest they were ever married to begin with.

The couple tied the knot in the backyard of their Bel-Air home in 2015. Pictures from their special day revealed that the garden ceremony was an intimate affair, with only a few people attending.

“Fiancé' sounds cute at first, then you go 'eh.' Then you get to say ‘my wife,’” Justin told Ellen DeGeneres several months after the wedding.

The 'Friends' star also referred to Justin as her husband. 

In 2016, Jennifer wrote a piece for the Huffington Post called 'For the Record'. She wrote the op-ed after the media published pictures of her "looking pregnant". 

"For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of “journalism,” the “First Amendment” and “celebrity news.” Every day my husband and I are harassed by dozens of aggressive photographers staked outside our home who will go to shocking lengths to obtain any kind of photo, even if it means endangering us or the unlucky pedestrians who happen to be nearby," she wrote. 

But TMZ now claims the couple may not have been legally married. 

The publication apparently checked marriage records in L.A. County, dating back to 2010, but could not find any marriage license on record. 

California has 57 other counties where the actors could have filed their license, but a source told TMZ that there have been rumours for a while that they were never legally married.
