"Being on Idols is tough, by the time it's done, you only have two choices; break or break through," says former 'Idols SA' contestant Mmatema Moremi.

Mmatema Moremi won over thousands of hearts in 2015 with her powerful vocals on season 11 of 'Idols SA'.

She made it to the Top 2 of the competition, but lost the title to Karabo Mogane.

The 13th season of the show kicked-off this month, and while many contestants from previous seasons have already been long forgotten, Mmatema has managed to keep her career on track.

But it wasn't easy.

Speaking to TshisaLive, Mmatema says she has had to work hard to avoid "fading out".

"Life after Idols is all about who can capitalise the most or channel the momentum at the time to prove that they are worthy of being called an artist. I always knew that I was meant to minister through music but I needed a platform to launch me and Idols was it," she told the publication.

Mmatema admitted that she was sad after most of the shows during the competition.

She was often criticised by viewers who called her "Ma Screamer", because of her powerful voice.

"I decided to embrace it after Idols, if 'screaming' had taken me to top two, then screaming was working," added.

Mmatema recently released her new single, 'Ke Lerato', which she wrote herself.

She describes the song as a love letter to God.
