"Our Heavenly Father sent me all his Angels...to protect me," says Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters after her attempted hijacking ordeal.
Miss South Africa 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is doing well after escaping an attempted hijacking this week.
The Western Cape beauty took to Instagram to thank her followers for their support following Wednesday night's incident.
Listen below as she recounts the horrific incident to East Coast Breakfast's Keri Miller, including details about how initially nobody wanted to stop to help. Or read more under the podcast.
Demi-Leigh was driving along Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, when she was confronted by three-armed men.
Coincidentally, she had a defensive driving course on Monday, and used the skills she learned to defend herself during the attempted hijacking.
"It definitely wasn't the best feeling ever having three guns pointed to your head, but luckily I knew exactly what to do, and how to react, and I stayed calm as I possibly could," she said on Instagram.
Demi-Leigh saw the men approaching her vehicle and prepared for the worst. She managed to punch one of her attackers in the throat, and forced her way out of her car.
Demi-Leigh then ran into traffic and knocked on "about 30 or 40" car windows begging for help, according to an interview she did with TshisaLive.
A good Samaritan opened her car to let her in, and drove to a place of safety.
Demi-Leigh thanked the woman for her selfless act.
"To the selfless and courageous young lady that stopped to pick me up in the middle of the road, you are my hero and I honestly don't know how to thank you enough for what you did for me," she said on Instagram.
