Miss SA finalist Xia Narain is ready to make Durban proud
"I’m a proud Durbanite... I am excited to be representing the city.," says Chatsworth's Xia Narain.
From the moment the Top 16 for this year’s Miss South Africa pageant was announced, one name has stood out for KZN fans of the annual pageant: Xia Narain.
The 23-year-old from Chatsworth has stood out (not only in stature, but in character too) from day one and in an exclusive chat with East Coast Radio’s online team, she has shared her hopes and dreams for her Miss SA journey.
Being a Miss SA finalist is an exciting achievement for any young woman, but it comes with its responsibilities, too. With the entire country watching, Xia explained how she hopes young girls perceive her.
“I want to give back and let the kids know that dreams are endless; keep on going to school, keep on doing well, and keep on believing in yourself.”
She also shared some inspiring words for young girls watching her during this year’s Miss SA pageant.
“You can do it, don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it, keep doing it, keep working hard, and your dreams can come true one day. I don't have a speech ready but if I win I will speak from the heart. I will be able to speak from the heart so you can expect a long, tear-jerking speech from me.”
We couldn’t let the interview end without asking for a shout out to her hometown.
“I’m a proud Durbanite, and although I am not the only person born in Durban in the Top 16, I am excited to be representing the city. I know for a fact my family will have my back throughout this whole competition.”
Before the day ended, we had an opportunity to speak to Nthabiseng Phoshoko, who is the commercial director for LFP. The “agents of transformation” saved the day when many of us worried there might not be a Miss South Africa this year.
“Xia is one of 16 incredible women representing her family and city at Miss South Africa. LFP is proud to be making a difference in this year’s competition and we have no doubt that we have introduced 16 powerful role models to the country”.
Xia, along with the 15 other finalists, attended a special Mandela Day celebration, hosted by Miss SA’s head sponsor LFP last week.
The model and psychologist spent her 67 minutes giving back to the youth and was proud of the impact she was able to make. She wasted no time in telling us just how important the 18th of July was to her.
“Mandela Day was all about giving back for me, just like Nelson Mandela did, he gave back to the community and I need to ensure that I take the time to give back too. He made a difference and that’s what me and my girls are all about - Miss South Africa 2019 is here for the kids, for the youth, we want to make their day and make a difference ”
Former Umhlanga resident Danielle Wallace and Margate's Lisa Stoffela are also in the Top 16. We can't wait to see the KZN beauties in action at the Miss South Africa pageant on August 9.
