Meanwhile in America... Donald Trump pardons Lil Wayne and Kodak Black
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Donald Trump announced more than 100 new pardons and commutations on his final day as President - and some interesting names made the list!
Lil Wayne made headlines in October last year when he endorsed Donald Trump just days before the US elections.
The rapper's girlfriend reportedly dumped him (they're allegedly back together) after his "great meeting" with the then-President. Many of his fans were also less than impressed with the endorsement.
But it seems the 'Lollipop' hitmaker was willing to take the heat for a very good reason.
Donald Trump just released a list of the 143 people who have been granted pardons and commutations and guess who made the cut?
As one Twitter user put it, Lil Wayne was making chess moves all along. His newfound love for the outgoing President seems to have been a calculated move.
Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge in December 2020 - a year after a gold-plated handgun was found in his private jet.
The 38-year-old was set to be sentenced in late January. He was facing 10 years in prison!

Lil Wayne is not the only rapper who made the list. Trump also granted rapper Black a commutation.
The 23-year-old was sentenced to nearly four years in prison in 2019 for lying on official documents in order to buy three firearms. One of the firearms was allegedly found at the scene of a shooting in March 2019.
Many of Kodak Black's supporters felt the sentence was too harsh.
Here's a look at how Twitter users reacted to the news:
Donald Trump just pardoned Lil Wayne at the recommendation of Deion Sanders and I can’t believe I just typed that sentence. pic.twitter.com/P1lvDxtPCl

I remember when Twitter first said Lil Wayne was sucking up to Trump for a pardon months ago, and that’s really what played out.
