How to keep the flame going in your marriage
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Often, people prepare for the wedding day more that the marriage itself. They go all out to ensure that there’s fireworks at the wedding, but forget to put any effort into keeping the flame going afterwards.
But you can avoid being part of the growing divorce statistic by doing some of the steps below to ensure you remain happily married.
Never stop chasing each other
People go all out to ‘catch’ the one they love. In their pursuit, they surprise their lover with flowers, a late night movie or a sexy text message, but soon after marriage, they tend to stop doing the chasing. This can make your spouse feel less important to you, and cause you to drift apart. Continue doing the things you did while chasing them.
Do what makes your spouse happy
Great couples will tell you that in marriage, there’s no room for selfishness. This means that even if sometimes you don’t feel like doing certain things, you just do them for your partner, and they do the same for you. So be it that golf tournament that your husband is going to and would love your support, or offering that helping hand to your wife with the dishes, now and then, you have to choose to do something that will make your spouse happy. This will in the long-term make them feel special, and that their happiness matters to you.
Don't get stuck in the past
Truth is, people change as they age. Sometimes their desires and passions also change as they grow. It is important that when you are married, you constantly learn to accept and love your partner as they age. Don’t get stuck in the past, but embrace your partner as they age, and grow together.
Make time for intimacy
Life can get so hectic that sometimes couples can neglect one of the key ingredients in keeping their marriage intact. A recent study published in Mirror revealed that couples who have sex once a week are actually the most content. So make sure you make time for intimacy with your partner.
