'Conscious Uncoupling' - Are you staying when you should leave? Gwyneth opens up about why she left Chris Martin.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin parted ways six years ago, and their "conscious uncoupling" continues to make headlines.
'The Politician' actress has shared for the first time how she knew their nearly 13-year marriage had reached its end.
She was celebrating her 38th birthday in Italy with the Coldplay frontman when she she had to face the truth.
"I don't recall when it happened, exactly. I don't remember which day of the weekend it was or the time of day. But I knew—despite long walks and longer lie-ins, big glasses of Barolo and hands held—my marriage was over," she told British Vogue.

The now 47-year-old says she tried to push the idea out of her mind but had to face reality.
"I tried to convince myself it had been a fleeting thought, that marriage is complicated and ebbed and flowed. But I knew it. It was in my bones. "
Despite knowing that her marriage was over, the Goop founder said "it would be years until" they said the words aloud.
"But, that weekend, a dam had cracked just enough to hear the unrelenting trickle of truth. And it grew louder until it was all I could hear."
The couple tried to make their relationship work before Gwyneth and their therapist introduced them to "conscious uncoupling" - which would allow them to be a family even though they technically were no longer a couple.
Gwyneth said they "tried everything" to make their relationship work.
"We didn't want to let anyone down. We desperately didn't want to hurt our children. We didn't want to lose our family. The questions, both philosophical and tactical, seemed unfathomable: Who sleeps where, how does bath time work, what do we say to the kids? I bent myself into every imaginable shape to avoid answering them."
But their "conscious uncoupling" became permanent in 2015 when Gwyneth filed for a divorce.
She is now married to TV writer and director Brad Falchuk. The couple tied-the-knot in 2018.
Gwyneth still remains friends with Chris - whom she has two children with. The former couple has even gone on double dates together post-divorce.
