‘Gangnam Style’ celebrates 10-year anniversary

Billions of views later, ‘Gangnam Style’ is still one of the most viewed videos on YouTube.
Ten years ago, a South Korean singer took the world by storm with his smash hit, 'Gangnam Style'. Psy released the number one song in 2012.
The 44-year-old released the track's video on July 15 that same year. Despite the song being sung in Korean, millions of people around the world were singing 'Oppa Gangnam Style' and doing Psy's famous moves.
The song became the first video to reach one billion views on YouTube.
"Being the first artist to reach 1 billion views on YouTube was an extraordinary feeling 10 years ago and it still is today. To have played a role in paving the way for music of all kinds to transcend borders is a true honor," Psy said in a statement shared by YouTube officials.
The 'Gangnam Style' video remains popular on YouTube with a current total of 4.4-billion views. It was eventually overthrown by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s 'See You Again' - which was recorded for 'Fast & Furious 7 (Furious 7)'.
The song was a tribute to the movie's star, Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash.
