Funny or foul? Lasizwe slammed over "uneducated" black mom skit
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
YouTube star Lasizwe is facing backlash over his latest skit.
When it comes to comedy - it is either a hit or miss (cough, Will-Smith-Chris-Rock-gate) - and nobody knows that better than YouTube sensation Lasizwe Dambuza.
The popular social media personality has had his fair share of controversial moments, but he may have just had his biggest "moemish" of 2022.
The 23-year-old decided to celebrate Black Coffee's recent win at the Grammys with a funny skit about how moms of different races would react to the news.
The skit saw him impersonating a white mom, coloured mom, and black mom.
The white mom revealed that she wouldn't treat her Grammy Award-winning son any differently, while the coloured mom bragged about how her son was better than her friend's son.
Things went a little left when he got to the black mom's reaction.

While many people found the skit hilarious, many were offended that Lasizwe portrayed the black mom as "uneducated" because she did not know what a Grammy is.
"Lazizwe disrespect our black mothers for cheap jokes and airheads defend this nonsense," one Twitter user wrote.
But one Twitter user came to Lasizwe's defence and said people should use the incident as a teachable moment.
Another user added: "Maybe this is your opportunity to teach LaSizwe and other content creators who emulate black mothers in satire, about why referencing black mothers, as illiterate, harmful. The same way we were later taught about Leon Schuster’s movies after years of finding them funny. Teach!"

Telling LaSizwe he has never been funny, will not make him do better. Teach him, so that he understands the impact beyond the outrage. In that way, he will be mindful of how he curates ‘Black Mother content’ in future. Insults will only make him retaliate & repeat the offence.

When does it become the responsibility of the comedian to teach themselves. Ask themselves a few questions before posting the created content. Things like ‘ is this funny, what message am i sending if any, am i perpetuating a stereotype’,and so on and so forth.
