"You go to college, you get to stay on the payroll," Don Johnson says he cut off Dakota in her late teens because she didn't want to go to college.
Don Johnson has revealed how his famous daughter, Dakota Johnson, reacted to him cutting her off financially when she started her acting career.
The 71-year-old actor told Seth Meyers on his late-night show that he has a strict rule about education.
Don, who has five children - aged 14 to 38, says if they don't want to get an education then they can forget about him supporting them financially.
"We have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll. So, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll," he said.

Don says Dakota made up her mind that she was not going to college and instead wanted to pursue her acting career.
"Toward the end of high school, I went to her and I said, 'So, do you want to go visit some colleges?' Or something like that, and she was like, 'Oh, no. I'm not going to college.'
"I went, 'OK, well, you know what that means? You won't be on the payroll anymore.'"
When Don asked Dakota how she would manage, she simple replied: "Don't you worry about it".
Three weeks later she was cast in 'The Social Network'.
Despite cutting her off, Don and Dakota still have a good relationship.
