Cardi B urges her fans to manage their money wisely this festive season

Cardi B might be worth more than $40 million (R686m) but don't expect her to go on a crazy shopping spree this festive season.

The 30-year-old took to Twitter this week to remind her 27-million followers that we are going through a recession. 

"We [are] going through a recession…..Merry Christmas,' she tweeted.

While some of her fans took it as a reminder for people not to be tempted to overspend, some thought the advice was rich coming from one of the richest female rappers in the world 

"Says the rapper worth 40 million," one tweep replied.

The 'Wap' hitmaker clapped back at the Twitter user. Firstly, she told the user that her net worth is way more than $40-million.

And secondly, just because you have millions in the bank doesn't mean you can't lose it all if you spend recklessly. 

"I’m worth more then [than] that and guess what ? If I don’t save ,work and budget I could lose it too! What makes you think that no matter how much money you got you can’t lose it all if you don’t manage your money correctly. I too have bills, responsibilities and people I have to help," she replied.

Many Twitter users came to Cardi B's defence. 

"Exactly cardi. Like I could be worth 2m bringing in 500k a year but if my expenses are 450K what am I? BROKE. Like people don’t get it, especially being the “breadwinner” in the family we take care of others, send money, help out etc, shit can go QUICK," a user named Jarrett wrote. 

But not everyone is up for a lecture about finances from the rich and famous - who are known to lavish themselves and their family with expensive gifts. 

"The 1% lecturing the rest of us…..so inspiring. Hopefully, you survive inflation," one person replied.

Cardi B will be spending Christmas with her husband, rapper Offset, and their two children - Kulture and Wave.

Recession or no recession, the Grammy Award winner can expect a shiny new present from her husband. Offset has been known to spoil Cardi with expensive gifts. 

He bought her a $375,000 (R6,4m) Audemars Piguet watch for Valentine's Day in 2022. He added six Chanel Bags to the gift! 

The 'Bad and Boujee' hitmaker has also given her a $60, 000 chain, a mansion in the Dominican Republic, and a $300,000 Rolls-Royce. 

Cardi B also loves spoiling her man with lavish gifts She gave him a $2-million (R34m) cheque for his 30th birthday! One year earlier, she bought him a gold Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

It will certainly be a merry Christmas in their household.
