"I was like 'I can't leave because of my kids, but I'm not happy, what do I do?'" - Ben Affleck is getting real about his failed marriage to Jennifer Garner.
Ben Affleck has revealed some interesting details about his relationship with Jennifer Garner.
The 49-year-old actor says he felt trapped in the marriage which led to him drinking more. The couple got married in 2005 and have three children together, Violet, Serafina, and Samuel.
They first announced plans to divorce in 2015. Ben and Jennifer tried to save their marriage, and the 'Gone Girl' actor checked into rehab at one point. They finalised their divorce in 2018.
Ben tells Howard Stern in an interview that they stayed together as long as they did for their children.
He says his relationship problems were one of the reasons why he turned to alcohol. Ben said he felt stuck.
"I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution," he said on 'The Howard Stern Show'.
Ben says he wouldn't have gotten sober if he stayed in the marriage. He says they "grew apart".
"We had a marriage that didn't work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn't be married any longer. Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don't want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage," he told Howard.
