South African rapper AKA has officially settled his more than R5-million tax bill. The 34-year-old took to social media to celebrate.

"Woke up this morning and I don’t owe the government a damn thang. Hallelujah … (oh yes you read correctly, that is 5 MILLION … in tax, no kizzy, no [cap]," he wrote on Instagram.

The 'Fela in Versace' rapper made headlines in 2017 when the City Press reported that he owed SARS at least R2-million.

He denied the claims. "Let me just say this, everything is 100% (on my side). I don't owe SARS any money. I wouldn't be posting my watches or my cars if I did. This is nothing more than Vth Season and Benza planting stories (about me ) in the media," he told TshisaLIVE

According to the tax statement AKA shared, the amount he paid was for the period between February 2017 and February 2022.

The rapper's followers were shocked by his tax bill, with many questioning how much he made during the period to receive such a huge bill.

"Comrades kante how much money are y’all making. Well done for closing it off brother," musician JR commented.

Some accused AKA of bragging that he could pay millions, but others applauded him for being transparent.

"This is good AKA we should normalize this as celebrities, let me also post my income tax statement to motivate other celebrities to pay their tax," one of AKA's fans joked.

AKA is one of several stars to have made headlines over their tax issues. Black Coffee allegedly sold some of his immovable property in 2020 to pay a tax bill. He reportedly got SARS to drop his bill from R40m to R8m.

According to The Citizen, 'Idols SA' judge Somizi had to part ways with some of his luxury items to pay off his R2.5-million tax bill.

Bonang Matheba paid an admission of guilt fine in 2018 for failing to file her tax returns. She has since settled her outstanding payments.
