Texas University to start offering Taylor Swift songwriting course
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Students at the University of Texas in Austin will be studying a new course titled, 'Taylor Swift Songbook', where they will get to know all about the award-winning star.
Taylor Swift has achieved so much in her career and changed the world of music, so it's no surprise that the University of Texas in Austin thought it appropriate to devote an entire course to her music.
Students at the university will get to study the 'Taylor Swift Songbook' course beginning from October.
According to Sky News, the 'Taylor Swift Songbook' will be studied alongside other literacy from giants such as Shakespeare and poet Coleridge.

According to the website, the course "uses the songwriting of pop music icon Taylor Swift to introduce literary critical reading and research methods — basic skills for work in English literature and other humanities disciplines.”
It will also focus on "Swift’s music and the cultural contexts in which it and her career are situated."
The course will "consider frameworks for understanding her work, such as poetic form, style, and history among various matters and theoretical issues important to contextualisation as we practice close and in-depth reading, evaluating secondary sources, and building strong arguments.”
In May, Swift received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University.
During her acceptance speech, she spoke about how she has never received 'college' experience.
“I never got to have a normal college experience per se. I went to public high school until 10th grade and then finished my education doing home school work on the floor of airport terminals,” she said.
