Those who skipped second Pfizer jab urged to complete vaccination
Health Minister Joe Phaahla says he is extremely concerned about the number of people who have skipped their second Pfizer vaccine.
South Africa's on the brink of the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections, driven by the new Omicron variant.
Phaahla's appealed to those, who have missed their second doses, to take them.
"We really appeal to them to come forward and complete their vaccination so that they can be fully protected because what we have also seen is that while having at least one dose does provide some protection, but it's just not enough because it doesn't provide full protection which is required."
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases reported on Thursday night that over 14.5 million people, over the age of 18, are fully vaccinated.
A total of 11.2 million have taken the first Pfizer dose.
Phaahla says although the numbers look promising, we have a steep hill to climb.
"As we speak now, 42.1% of all adults have received at least one vaccination dose, with 14.6 million - which constitute 36.8% of the adult population now fully vaccinated."
