'Sustained' increase in Covid-19 cases in KZN
South Africa is entering the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections with sustained increases in the number of confirmed cases reported in seven provinces including KwaZulu Natal.
The Health Department says the others include Gauteng, where the majority of new cases are from, the Western Cape, Mpumulanga and the North West.
It's recorded over 8-and-a-half-thousand new cases in the last 24-hour period, which represent a 16.5% positivity rate. Twenty eight more people diagnosed with the virus have died , bringing our pandemic death toll to 89 871.
There's been an increase of 135 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 165-thousand vaccinations were administered in the country. 14-and-a-half-million adults have been fully jabbed against coronavirus.
More than half a million 12 to 17-year-olds have taken a single dose of the Pfizer shot.

Meanwhile, KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala is self-isolating after he recently came into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.
Provincial government spokesperson Lennox Mabaso, says the premier doesn't have any symptoms at the moment and appears to be doing well. He'll continue to work from home.
"The work will include completing meetings and leading the government response to the coronavirus pandemic."
