SA records new vaccine milestone as 7 million adults now fully vaccinated

South Africa has recorded another Covid-19 vaccination milestone as over seven million adults are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The seven million mark was reached on Thursday.
The Department of Health released the stats showing that a total of 7 021 256 people above the age of 18 have received either the one-shot Johnson and Johnson or the two-dose Pfizer vaccines.
This increase represents 17.5% of the adult population.
A total of 225 558 jabs were administered on Thursday, with the total doses of both vaccines standing at 14 367 151.
So far, the country has administered a total of 3 164 529 Johnson and Johnson and 11 202 632 Pfizer jabs.
Gauteng is leading with 60 090 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours – followed by Western Cape with 40 291.
Eastern Cape, Kwa Zulu-Natal and Limpopo administered just below 30 000 doses in the last 24 hours.
The institute reported that there were 6 270 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours leading up to Thursday evening.
A further 175 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 84 327.
