Plett Rage cancelled for second year running
Another matric end-of-year festival has been cancelled amid a resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the country.
Organisers of the well-known Plett Rage, traditionally held in the Garden Route town of Plettenberg Bay, is the second festival to be cancelled this week.
This after an attempt to forge ahead with the event despite calls by government to avoid large gatherings while the country battles the Omicron variant.
The festival was set to get underway on Friday but organisers made a U-turn after reporting a high number of infections by ticket holders.
Founder and director of Plett Rage Ronen Klugman says the event organisers put measures in place to gauge the level of infections among partygoers.
“Our first line of defence was for all our ragers to do PCR tests. The PCR tests are the ones they did in their hometowns, they did those before they came to Plettenberg Bay.
“We started receiving information from ragers who tested positive in their hometown. We put the PCR testing in place as a pre-warning system so they wouldn’t travel to Plettenberg Bay with Covid.”
Klugman adds almost all schools set to attend reported positive cases.
“It was a matter of time before that number explodes.
“With advice from health authorities we made a decision not to move forward, it’s just not the right thing to do,” said Klugman.
It’s the second year running that the event has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
