South Africa has reached a new vaccination milestone – with 6 million adults now fully inoculated against Covid-19.
The country reached the number on Wednesday.
The Department of Health released the stats showing that 6,145,216 adults are now fully vaccinated.
The government’s Covid-19 vaccine campaign came under fire initially for the slow pace of the rollout.
But it has since picked up speed as more and more South Africans qualified for the jab.
The country is now close to reaching its target of vaccinating 300 000 people a day.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 253,160 jabs were administered, bringing the total doses administered to 12,841,537.
Gauteng is leading with 3,291,528 jabs administered.
The Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal have both administered over two million vaccines.
