New Covid-19 milestone as 21 million people in SA has received at least one jab

South Africa has recorded another Covid-19 vaccine milestone on Thursday, with more than 21 million people having received at least one vaccination.
The latest statistics released by the Department of Health shows that a total of 21 011 187 people have received either the one-shot Johnson & Johnson or one of the double dose Pfizer vaccines.
There were 205 253 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours.
A total of 11 346 972 individuals are now fully vaccinated.
This represents 28,51% of the population.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the number of new infections, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported that a further 520 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Thursday.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 1.6% positivity rate.
A further 81 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 88 835.
There has been an increase of 62 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 4 413 people currently receiving treatment in both private and public hospitals.
