KZN continues to account for majority of Covid-19 cases in the country

KwaZulu-Natal remains the leading province with the highest number of Covid-19 cases.
The province recorded 2 691 cases in the last 24 hours - followed by the Western Cape with 1 796.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 9 203 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours up to Thursday evening.
"The majority of new cases today [Thursday] are from KwaZulu-Natal (29%), followed by Western Cape (20%). Eastern Cape accounted for 18%; Free State and Gauteng Province each accounted for 8% respectively; Northern Cape accounted for 6%; Mpumalanga accounted for 5%; North West accounted for 4%; and Limpopo Province accounted for 2%," reads the statement by the NICD.
The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases now stands at 2 796 405.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 16.1% positivity rate.
A further 418 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 82 914.
There has been an increase of 437 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 12 408 people currently admitted in both private and private health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 250 843 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
