Omesh Ramnarain was allegedly drunk when he ploughed into Richard da Silva and Jared Dwyer while on an early morning ride in 2016.

The case is set down for closing arguments tomorrow.

Friends and family members of cyclists, da Silva and Dwyer wept as Ramnarain told the court he didn't even see the men that tragic morning.

The public prosecutor suggested to Ramnarain that he didn't see the cyclists as he had too much to drink the night before. He denied this. The accused described his state of mind at the scene of the crash and afterwards as traumatised and shocked.

Pressed for an explanation by the magistrate as to why he didn't see the cyclists, Ramnarain appeared to become emotional and paused.

When he had collected himself, he repeated his version that a car he had been following only swerved at the last minute and then his windscreen shattered.

Asked earlier by the public prosecutor, if a rock found on the floorwell of his car afterwards had hit his windscreen, Ramnarain said he didn't know.
