Lewis says he wrote the song 'How Do I Say Goodbye' for his dad who was diagnosed with cancer.
"It was an incredibly emotional song to write for me, I broke down a bunch of times. I knew it was special! I wrote this song about my dad when he got diagnosed with cancer. And I was luckily enough to show him this song as he is now in remission!!! (He said he loves the song but can’t listen to it more than once. And now I’m seeing the song connect with so many of you," he wrote on Instagram.

The song was released in 2019 from the album, 'A Place We Knew'.
The 35-year-old said he previously sent the song to more than 30 managers, but received no response.
He added that the way the song went on to be a hit is proof that 'anything is possible'.
"7 years ago I sent the demo of this song to 30 managers and no one responded and the other night I performed it to a sold out show of 7,000 people singing so loud I couldn’t hear myself. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE" he said.
