Taylor Swift sued for plagiarising lyrics
Songwriters have accused Taylor Swift of stealing their lyrics for one of her biggest hits.
Taylor Swift is being sued by two songwriters who have accused her of plagiarising their lyrics.
Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who penned the 3LW song 'Playas Gon’ Play', say the chorus of Taylor's 2014 megahit, 'Shake It Off', is similar to their lyrics.
Taylor sings on her single:
“’Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate”
3LW sings on their song:
Playas, they gonna play
And haters, they gonna hate
Ballers, they gonna ball
Shot callers, they gonna call
It's not the first time 'Shake It Off' has been sued over its lyrics.
A musician named Jesse Braham tried to sue Taylor for $42-million in 2015, saying her song was similar to his single 'Haters Gone Hate'. A judge dismissed the suit.
Taylor, who famously tried to trademark the lyrics "this sick beat" from "Shake It Off", says the latest lawsuit is ludicrous.
"This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab," her PR team told TMZ.
Taylor's latest single, 'Look What You Made Me Do', which is causing controversy of its own, is currently at number 24 on the Coca-Cola Top 40 chart.
