'Beautiful' singer Christina Aguilera says music bosses wanted her to change her surname when she first started out in the industry.

The 41-year-old says despite the pressure, she refused to change her last name - which was considered hard to pronounce. Christina made the comments during her appearance at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami, Florida.

The Grammy Award-winner's latest Spanish-language album is titled 'Aguilera'. She says she is proud of her latin heritage.

"Something that I really embody and understand is that, you know, this is a name that has been tried to be taken away from me on numerous occasions coming up in this business... It’s not the easiest name for everyone to pronounce. It’s been butchered a lot," she said.

Christina says music execs came up with some pretty bad names as alternatives, but she did not back down. She says naming her album 'Aguilera' is a full circle moment.

“I was like, 'No, I’m Aguilera. I’m proud of where I come from, my father being from Ecuador. Why not come full circle in all of the chapters and close it on a name, my name?"

'Aguilera' is a  trilogy album with three chapters. Christina released the first part of the album -  La Fuerza - as an EP in January. Chapter two, 'La Tormenta', dropped in May.

The third and final chapter - 'La Luz' - is due for release soon. Christina teased a new song from the upcoming EP on her Instagram page this week. The song is called 'No Es Que Te Extrañe'. She says it is one of her most personal songs.

Christina also shared a clip of the song's music video.
