Blake Shelton receives backlash over his song ‘Minimum Wage'
Updated | By Poelano Malema
The country music star has been called "insensitive".
‘The Voice’ coach Blake Shelton released his single, ‘Minimum Wage’, on New Year’s Eve.
In an interview with NBC, the star said the love song is about his soon-to-be wife, Gwen Stefani.
Part of the song says: “Girl, your love is money, your love is money. Yeah, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage.”
Shelton, who is well off, received backlash for his lyrics, with many social media users calling him “tone deaf” and "insensitive".
This is because of the hard time the world finds itself in where so many people are struggling to make ends meet because of the coronavirus.

"Does anyone else find Blake Shelton’s “Minimum Wage” song to be incredibly tone deaf to our country’s current state?," one user tweeted.
Another one added: "Losing my mind watching Blake Shelton, a man who has $100M, sing "Your love is money, you make me feel rich on minimum wage" to close out 2020".

I wish he wrote more of his own music because he's an incredible song writer. There's a time for songs like Minimum Wage but it isn't now. It's not relatable. People are out of work due to the pandemic. They're fighting for their livelihoods as businesses are forced to close
