Billie Eilish surprised people find her music "depressing"

Is Billie the poster child for depressing music?
Billie Eilish says she found it "weird" when people who listened to her earlier music described her sound as "depressing".
The 'Bad Guy' hitmaker started making music with her brother Finneas when she was just 13 years old. The siblings recorded songs such as 'She's Broken' and released them on the online audio distribution platform, SoundCloud.
That same year, Billie recorded the hit that will make her a worldwide star. 'Ocean Eyes' was released in November 2015 as an independent track before it was picked up and re-released by Darkroom and Interscope Records in November 2016.
The 20-year-old says people's first reactions to her music were interesting.
"It was so weird to me when I was first coming up and, and the thing everybody said was, like, ‘Billie Eilish’s music is so depressing, and it’s so sad, and it’s too dark.’" she says in Audible's new series 'Origin', according to NME.
Billie says if anything, her music is "real".
"I was like, ‘What are you talking about? Have you listened to The Beatles and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and ‘Yesterday’, and Lana Del Rey? Like, what the hell?’ It was so surprising to me that people thought anything I was creating was dark. I mean, it’s real.

Billie and her brother, who co-writes and produces some of her songs, went on to win numerous awards.
The siblings won the 'Best Original Song' at the 2022 Oscars for the James Bond theme song, 'No Time To Die'. Billie became the second-youngest person in history to win in the category.
"CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?????????" she wrote on Instagram after her win.
The song also won a Grammy and a Golden Globe. Billie has broken several records since she burst onto the music scene. In 2018, she became the youngest person to win a Grammy in the 'Record of the Year' category.
