Ways to sanitise your groceries to minimise risk of contracting the coronavirus

Following these six steps will ensure that you minimise the risk of contracting the coronavirus from your groceries.
One of the ways to contract the coronavirus is through touching contaminated objects or surfaces.
Grocery items bought in stores pose a high risk because the items on the shelves can be touched by scores of people and some of them might be infected with the virus.
This is why it is important to ensure that you sanitise your groceries before they enter your home to minimise the risk of contracting the virus.

Let’s look at the steps to follow to ensure your grocery items are safe to use:
- Place the non-perishable items in the garage or car for three days to ensure the virus dies
The National Institute of Health has revealed that the coronavirus could be detected on plastic for up to three days and on the cupboard for a day. So, instead of bringing your plastics right inside the house from the grocery stores, place them outside for three days.
- Sanitise the surface where you are going to place your groceries before packing them, i.e your kitchen table and cupboards.
- Wash your hands with soap and running water before handling the products.
- Sanitise a paper towel and use it to wipe the packages of the grocery items.
- If you have items that can be stored into containers, remove the packaging and place the items into your own containers that are clean.
- For your fruits and vegetables – use running water to wash any dirt or contamination away. Remember to clean each item separately.
