Four things to consider when buying headphones

Life is all about choices, and choosing the right headphones that won't harm your health and will provide you with good sound is important.

Headphones come with great benefits. They provide the convenience of listening to whatever you want to without having to bother anyone else. They also optimise sound quality and help shut down outside noise, making it easier for you to concentrate, especially if at work or if you are watching a movie and don’t want to be distracted.

However, using poor quality ones can damage your ears and health. Bad earbuds can fall out of ears and even hurt you, but a good quality product, such as the Huawei Sport Bluetooth headphones available on ECR shop, is great for giving you the best experience you need.

With the wide range of headphones available, picking the right one for your needs can get confusing. We’ve compiled a list of things to look out for:

Sound quality
Sound quality is everything. There are two things to consider when it comes to sound: closed-back or open-back headphones.

Closed-back headphones are best for public places because they keep sound isolated around your ears, preventing others from listening to what you're listening to. Open-back headphones can leak sound if the volume is high and also allow for you to hear what is going on around you, but they offer a better bass sound. So, depending on where you will be using your headphones, make sure you pick the right choice.

Frequency
The human ear can only hear frequencies ranging from 20-20,000Hz, so it is best to pick earphones that operate within this frequency range.

Comfort
When it comes to comfort, it’s all about preference. There are three types of headphones; over-ear, on-ear or in-ear.

In-ear: while some people hate having buds settled in their ears, others will enjoy the portability of this kind of headsets. They are the smallest and most portable of all the different kinds and are easy to wrap up.

On-ears are not as portable as in-ears, but they can sit securely on your ears, offering comfort and not having to worry about them falling out of your ears.

Over-ear cups wrap completely around your ears, giving you a passive sound-isolation by completely enveloping your ears. They are least portable, but can be the most comfortable.

Cost
When it comes to cost, it all depends on your budget, and how often you will be using the headphones.

Good quality headphones should last you for years and don't have to cost you an arm and a leg. The Huawei Sport Bluetooth Headphones Lite, for instance, costs only R428.19 and has amazing features. Not only does it come with the required features for good headphones, but it is a wireless design, and it comes with ten days standby and eleven hours playback.

How to care for your headphone and ensure it doesn't harm your health:

-          It is also important to take a five-minute headphone break after every hour of using them.  Prolonged use of headphones increases bacterial growth in ears and can cause damage to your ear canal.

-          Using headphones at high volume for long periods can result in hearing loss. So be mindful of the volume level.

-          Change your sponge or rubber cover often. The sponge or rubber cover gets covered with bacteria over time.

-          Keep the earphones or headphones clean and free from moisture and dust to optimise the performance of the driver.

-          Remember to also keep the cable free of tangles or knots.
