From helping with digestion to keeping your knees and hip joints healthy, here are the benefits believed to be associated with eating while seated on the floor.
It is not uncommon for people, especially in the Indian culture, to ditch the table and chairs and sit on the floor for a meal.
Apparently, there are benefits to eating on the floor.
One of them is that it serves as a form of exercise, because you have to bend forward to get the food and then go back to your natural position. Those movements reportedly do wonders for your health, even aiding in digestion.
'When you sit on the floor and bend forward to eat and go back to your natural position. This back and forth movement helps muscles in the abdomen to secrete digestive juices, and helps in digesting the food properly and quickly,' states India Times.

In another YouTube video posted by Kauvery Hospital, it was revealed that sitting on the floor to eat can aid in reducing your chances of suffering from arthritis.
"It has been scientifically proven that sitting on the floor has been related to less chance of developing arthritis of the hip," states Dr Keerthivasan, Consultant Orthopaedician and Spine Surgeon from Kauvery Hospital.
However, he warns that this depends on the individual and their age, and those with knee and hip conditions should avoid it as it can worsen their conditions.
Sitting cross legged while eating has also been found to cause people to slow down the speed of eating food. This, in turn, helps with better digestion.
According to doctor.ndtv, eating on the floor keeps your knees and hip joints healthy.
With all these benefits, will you be ditching the chair to eat on the floor?
