A majority of today's youth use social media.

Smart phones are in the hands of kids as young as six, and many teens admit that social media has become an integral part of their everyday lives.

They say social media helps them to stay up to date with the latest trends and to follow their favourite celebrities.

Social media also enables them to form relationships and gives them a voice on the internet.

However, although social media has all these amazing benefits, it can also affect their satisfaction with life later on.

A study by Nature Communications has shown that the use of social media at a young age can have an impact on a teen's life at a later stage.

The study was conducted on more than 72,000 people, taking into consideration how much time they spend on social media on a typical day.

According to the study, 16 to 21 year olds who claimed to use social media for more than seven hours per day reported lower life satisfaction than those who used it for up to three hours daily.

The study suggests among girls aged 11 to 13, those who had increased their social media use in the last 12 months were less satisfied with life a year later, reports BBC
