How to embrace the single life
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Who says you need a love life to be happy?!
With Valentine's Day fast approaching, many single people will begin questioning their love life.
The older you get the more pressure you feel to be in a relationship.
In many African cultures, women are expected to get married and have children by the age of 30.
If you are at that age and are not married, sometimes family members and society at large can pressurise you into getting married.
But don't let what others think get to you. Whether you want a partner or not, it is important that you realise being single is not the end of the world.
Take a look at how you can embrace your single life:
Enjoy your freedom
One of the greatest things about being single is the freedom it comes with.
Nothing is more frustrating than having to compromise your own desires because
your partner does not seem keen.
Being single means you can go anywhere you want in the world on your own time
and you do not even have to report to anyone.
So before you settle down, enjoy your time alone and explore.
Be your own lover
Who said you need a man to buy you a birthday present, to take you out on a
date, or to even tell you he loves you?
Spoil yourself. Take yourself out on a date, buy yourself a birthday present, and tell yourself you love you.
Learn to fulfill your own needs.
Spend money on you!
Being in a
relationship can be so costly.
Think of how much money you would save because you do not have to deal with
buying birthday presents for your partner, anniversary gifts etc.
You don’t even have to worry about taking your partner out.
So instead of stressing about spending money on your partner, you can spend
your money on you or save it for that fancy car that you want to buy.
Being single comes with peace of mind
Most relationships end in heartbreak and mending your broken heart
can be so hard.
However, if you are not in any relationship, you do not have to worry about
anyone breaking your heart.
You are responsible for your own well-being and your own joy.
So embrace your single life and remember to never allow society to pressurise
you into getting into a relationship.
