Updated | By Poelano Malema
Michael Hutchence co-founded the rock band INXS, which sold over 60-million records worldwide. Listen to East Coast Gold this Friday as we will play some of the biggest hits from the star in honour of his birthday.
INXS frontman Michael Hutchence was born on 22 January 1960 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
He showed a love for music from an early age. From the age of ten, he was already performing with his family.
INXS producer Chris Thomas has praised the late singer for his incredibly good ear for music.
“He was the one who had a real idea of where things should go. He really did have an instinct for the whole thing. I was learning stuff from him. He wrote most of the top lines for those songs, the actual tune that the singer sings. He wasn’t just writing words; he was writing melodies,” he said in the ‘Now Mystify: Michael Hutchence’ film about the late star.
Sadly, the rock legend died at the mere age of 37 on 22 November 1997 in Sydney.
According to several media reports, the star died from suicide.
Hutchence's death left a big gap in the rock industry.
