Carole King’s successful music career
Updated | By Poelano Malema
East Coast Gold takes a look at the incredible accomplishments Carole King has racked up over the course of her six-decade musical career.
Carole King became popular at the tender age of 17 after releasing her song, 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow'.
Since 1958, the renowned singer-songwriter has been active in her music career. The milestones she has attained are uncommon for many singers.
Carole was born in Manhattan, New York, United States, but her music has seen her travel the world.
In 1959, she married musician Gerry Goffin and the two of them wrote the RnB hit, 'Chains'. However, they later divorced in 1969 and Carole went on to marry Charles Larkey in 1970, whom she divorced in 1976. She then married her manager, Rick Evers, in 1977, but he died a year later, reportedly due to a drug overdose.
In 1982, she married Rick Sorenson, a rancher from Idaho, but the two divorced in 1989.
King and her ex-husband, Gerry, have written several major hits, even for other artists.
The hits include ‘Take Good Care of My Baby’, which was recorded by Bobby Vee in 1961, and ‘You Make Me Feel like A Natural Woman’, which was recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1967.
One of the biggest albums by Carole is ‘Tapestry’, which she released in 1971. The album was number one on the Billboard album chart for 15 weeks. It went on to win four Grammy awards.
It was also the best selling album for more than 300 weeks.
Her other albums include ‘Music’, which she released in 1971, ‘Rhymes & Reasons’, which was released in 1972, ‘Fantasy’, which came out the following year, and ‘Wrap Around Joy’ in 1974.
Carole has 25 solo albums.
Her music is selling globally, and according to Smooth Radio, she has sold over 75-million albums worldwide.
She was also reportedly the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts between 1962 and 2005.
