11 facts about the Bee Gees you probably didn’t know

On December 22, twins Robin and Maurice Gibb would have celebrated their 77th birthday. East Coast Gold celebrates their lives by playing the greatest hits
from the Bee Gees.
Brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb came together in 1958 to form the group Bee Gees.
They were just seven and nine when they started singing. Since then they have recorded several hit singles and won countless awards.
Some of their hits include 'How Deep Is Your Love', 'To Love Somebody', 'I started A Joke', and 'Holiday'.
Their music dominated the airwaves during the 1960s and early 1970s.
Let’s look at some interesting facts about the trio.
- The Bee Gees made their first recordings in the late 50s after being discovered by radio DJ Bill Gates.
- The Bee Gees would do as many as 40 or 50 takes to make sure their songs came out sounding perfect.
- The three brothers were best friends and had houses next to each other.
- As young boys, they used to sing on street corners in Manchester.
- The Bee Gee's brother Andy who was also a musician died in 1988 at the age of 30 due to drug abuse.
- When the band started out, people thought they were The Beatles because their band name started with the letter 'b' and ended with an 's', and they sounded like them.
- One radio station in America played their song and said they were The Beatles with a different name.
- The group split in the 70s and later reunited.
- The last member of the group who is still alive is Barry Gibb. Robin died in May 2012, aged 62, due to cancer.
- The trio says their inspiration has always come from people and life experiences.
- Their versatility in writing comes from travelling and performing all over the world, listening to different sounds.
