WATCH: Durban's horrific street racing incident leaves two people injured

Unfortunately, Umgeni Road and Intersite Avenue have seen a lot of these accidents.
The video footage becomes even more sobering once one of the videographers was hit.
It is reported that two people were left injured during an this alleged street racing and drifting incident before midnight on Sunday morning.

The racing happened in the vicinity of the intersection of Umgeni Road and Intersite Avenue.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said their paramedics, together with Netcare 911, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision.
Van Reenen said that upon arrival, paramedics saw two vehicles that had collided at high speed and high impact, with one of the vehicles veering off the roadway and ploughing into a crowd of people.

“It is alleged that the incident is related to illegal street racing activities in the area, however, this is speculative and will form be subject to a SAPS investigation,” said van Reenen.
Durban Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad has requested that the vehicles involved in the collision be impounded for further investigations.

Unfortunately, this has left so many people arguing whether this is a Durban culture issue or if they should be punished accordingly for an out-of-the-ordinary incident.
“Races have been taking place there probably for more than 20 years. Racers and onlookers definitely understand the risks involved. But in this case, it was not the guy ’racing’ who caused it. The driver of the white van would have caused an accident even for someone that was not racing,” (sic) was one of the comments by Facebook user Shanelle Alexandria Samuel said
