WATCH: Chaos erupts as Durban's China Emporium goes up in flames

The fire left 13 people injured.
It was on Friday morning when the fire started at the Durban China Emporium and left the shop owners in panic.
It was reported by Marshall Security that thirteen people were injured in the blaze.

What caused the fire? Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen at the scene reported: “At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation."
Whilst this took place, the panic saw shop owners discarding money from higher up in the Emporium to prevent it from burning to ashes.
It became uncontrollable when the public joined the chaos by using that as an opportunity to take a share of the money.

Van Reenen also shared that the paramedics responded to the fire at 10:00 on Friday morning.
Reports from the scene continued to share that Ethekwini Fire and Rescue services, together with Metro Police and SAPS Search and Rescue, had to use high-rise ladders to gain access to rescue the occupants of the floor on which the fire broke out.

For now, we are just relieved that no lives were lost in the fire.
