Gift of the Givers founder Dr Imtiaz Sooliman has called on KZN communities to come together once again as the province faces another flood-related disaster.
Just over a month a ago, severe flooding devastated KZN's infrastructure, leaving many people homeless with over four hundred documented fatalities. Many families have still been searching for loved ones whose bodies have not been recovered.
On Saturday 21 May 2022, the South African Weather Service issued a level 10 weather warning.
"The most important aspect right now - for safety - is to stay off the roads. There are lists of affected roads, but the problem is that more roads could become affected at short notice. Small streams could become raging rivers within minutes. In Tongaat, a gentleman told me that the river rose eight meters in forty minutes." - Dr Sooliman

"The water speed is very deceptive. Our geologist has predicted that the water levels of the rain will increase to up to 50 mm, but we may have surpassed that already. We have to be careful of mudslides. We haven't yet heard of any life threatening situations right now."
