American musician, Cardi B, has had to apologise to fans and the Hindu community after one of her sneaker campaign pictures infuriated a number of social media users.
The former reality TV star was labelled 'disrespectful' and was told she is making a mockery of Hindu culture during the promotion of her new Reebok sneakers.

On one of the magazine covers, the Bodak Yellow hitmaker is seen mimicking the Hindu Goddess, Durga. Cardi wears a red dress and with her sneakers in her hands, she poses as the Hindu deity who has ten arms as her way of "paying homage" to a woman she believes is powerful. However, her fans slammed her.
One fan wrote: "People are saying Cardi B is paying homage to our Hindu Goddess Durga. So as a Hindu, I want to say that: 1-Wearing a shoe in a temple is prohibited. 2-Durga maa is not to be used as an aesthetic. 3-Durga maa is NEVER depicted bare-bodied. 4-THIS. IS. NOT. HOMAGE. IT'S. DISRESPECT.”

Amid backlash, Cardi B issued an apology in which she mentions that it was not her intention to hurt anyone. She added that the creatives told her she was going to represent a Goddess that represents strength, femininity, and liberation, and that’s something she loves and believes in.
Footwear News (the magazine she shot the cover for) also apologised.
