COVID-19: Elderly woman's death sparks fear in Morningside community
The death of an 81-year-old woman from COVID-19, a resident at the Bill Buchanan Association for the Aged, has created a sense of fear at the Morningside based facility.
The woman died at a Durban hospital last Thursday. Meanwhile four other residents who have tested positive for the virus are in hospital.
The facility's Dudley Fortune says reality has begun to sink in.
"I have seen enough fear in the eyes of the elderly to make me realise this thing is serious. As for the fools out there who believe they are impervious actually need to be locked up" , he said.
Dudley Fortune says the Depart of Health in the province has assisted them in stepping up screenings.
"The Department of Health has been absolutely wonderful. They have stepped and are now testing those who have gone to a clinic to collect medication, outside of wherever anyone was as a safety precaution", Fortune said.
"We expect those results pretty soon", he said.
