With the Durban July coming up soon, scores of people from all over South Africa will be visiting the KwaZulu-Natal province.
KwaZulu-Natal is not only known for its amazing beaches and entertainment places, but is home to amazing heritage sites, too.
Below are four of KZN’s must-see heritage sites for anyone residing in or planning to visit the province.
iSimangaliso Wetland Park is South Africa’s first World Heritage Site.
It has three major lake systems, eight interlinking ecosystems, and Africa’s largest estuarine.
It also has over 500 bird species, the Big Five, and whales and sharks.
Maloti-Drakensberg
Maloti-Drakensberg is one of the largest World Heritage Sites. It was recognised as a World Heritage Site in 2000 by UNESCO.
The site displays both cultural and natural beauty.
More than a third of the country’s proclaimed wilderness can be found in Maloti-Drakensberg.
Talana Museum, Battlefield & Heritage Park
Visit the Talana Museum, Battlefield & Heritage Park to learn more about the conflict that happened between the Zulus, Boers and Brits.
There is the Anglo Boer War exhibition, and a magnificent collection of glass from around the world and South Africa.
You can grab a delicious meal at the Miners Rest restaurant and do some shopping at the Museum Shop.
This site outside Howick is where Nelson Mandela was arrested on 5 August 1962. It holds enormous significance for the country as visitors get to learn about the most amazing President we have ever had.
