Would you pay R20k+ for an umbrella that wasn't waterproof?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Now that's just crazy!
We're all about having bespoke items in your wardrobe that are signature. If anything, having those stand-out pieces add value to your image.
But we have to draw the line on items that have a heavy cost factor and don't even fulfil their basic functionality.
Whether or not you are a brand fanatic, there has to be some sort of line or else you become a follower, and you definitely don't want that on your bio!
The recent hoo-ha surrounding the Adidas x Gucci collection has people on social media up in arms.
The uprising has been caused because of an umbrella that is part of the collection. As smart and sassy as the umbrella looks, it defeats the purpose of function as it is listed as an item for decorative use...
"One of the most-talked about items in the upcoming Adidas x Gucci collaboration is a R20,000 umbrella — and it's not even waterproof." (Business Insider)
The item is retailing for 11,000 yuan in China, which is roughly R26,000 here. And as much as we know that many Chinese people love their statement pieces, even they were horrified with the cost and lack of full use of this item.
According to Business Insider, many of the Weibo users expressed their distaste for the item saying things like:
"As long as I'm poor, they won't be able to trick me into paying for this," one Weibo user commented.
"That's a very big but useless fashion statement," another user wrote.

"A Gucci customer service representative told Beijing magazine Caijing that the item is "not recommended for use as an everyday umbrella." It has "good collector's value and is suitable for use as a daily accessory." (Business Insider)
Mmm, coz everyone is searching for that one umbrella piece to keep as a collector's item... Like, really!
