WATCH: Woman causes serious crash at Tour de France
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The search is on for a woman who caused a cyclist to crash at the Tour de France this past weekend...
The legendary Tour de France is held annually in France. The hype and the entire environment is a vibe on its own.
Think about the Comrades for KZNers; it's a time where people gather for a prestigious event, and with the lockdown restrictions, it is definitely something that many people looked forward to.
In all its prestige and hype, somehow something managed to go wrong, and this was a major setback for many cyclists. Imagine training and making sure that your mind and body is ready for what can be considered one of the biggest races of your career, only to be struck down by a spectator?
Well, that's exactly what happened this past weekend when a spectator held up a sign made out of cardboard and it hit one of the cyclists. The crash turned into a game of dominoes where all you see were cyclists falling...
As much as we feel for those cyclists, it was in no way their fault, it is one of those moments that will be forever marked in history. And what about the woman, what was she thinking?
The organisers of the event have said that she will be sued, once they find her...
"We are suing this woman who behaved so badly," Pierre-Yves Thouault, the tour's deputy director, told Agence France-Presse. "We are doing this so that the tiny minority of people who do this don't spoil the show for everyone."
The woman who caused it all was holding up a sign that read: "ALLEZ OPI-OMI!," which was a message saying hello to her grandparents. It is clear that the woman was not paying attention and was more focused on the TV cameras so she could share a special moment with her family.
#EpicFail for her, especially if they find her and she gets sued...
